I was talking to the computer and confirming all the beliefs I espouse constantly. Wow! It is so great to get affirmation and know that their are others out there who believe as I do. Thank you.

Re: A Teacher’s Field Guide to Parents

I have one child in
college and one in 6th grade so I have met a wide variety of teachers.

The 'counting the days’
teacher: has put in 30 years and this is my last so I don't care. Email me all
you want because I’m not changing anything.

The ‘I just got my
degree’ teacher: I’m mainlining coffee and have a billion ideas and they all
involve parent involvement and since I know you, like me, have nothing to do
this will be great big supper fun!

The ‘did you ace early
childhood development’ teacher: I have known your child for 4 weeks and now
know them better than you. Don’t bother
trying to explain anything to me; I stopped listening 20 minutes ago.

The ‘I’m busy’
teacher: you have no idea how hard it is
to be a teacher, no one else works 60 hour weeks! Every response you get from
me will be short and terse.

And the very rare ‘mentally
stable’ teacher: I have enough experience to be realistic but haven’t become bitter;
you can find me next to the unicorn in the land of marshmallows.

Re: Disparate Impact Gone Awry: Civil Rights Law & the Demonizaton of the Teachers

I generally agree with what you are saying - but couldn't we make the same arguments in defense of police officers assigned to high crime neighborhoods when they are accused of racism?

Re: What Makes a Master Teacher?

Teachers must strive to meet those qualities.

Re: Duncan vs. Duncan

Some good data from a Texas physics professor that supports your point. http://www.theurbn.com/2011/06...

Re: 10 Principles for the Future of Learning

I daydream the future of schooling will include a teacher like this...

Re: Emerging Trend: Grassroots Growth

Thanks, Dr. Cook. Unfortunately, there were so many incredible offerings, I could only focus on a scant few. However, I'm excited for all the learning that happened across the spectrum. Hopefully we can all take it back and put it to work in our schools. Cheers.

Re: Localizing Learning. There were skeptics for sure, but I agree, that was a good thing. As the events continue to pick up steam, I have little doubt Edcamp has the potential to affect change and to reframe the debate on professionalizing the teaching profession. I very much look forward to watching (and hopefully participating) in developments in the future. Cheers.

Re: Emerging Trend: Grassroots Growth

Jason great post! I could certainly see a few skeptics in the audience, but that is a good thing. Cognitive dissonance creates change. Like when reading many other posts on the direction of learning, I wish I had seen it sooner. I am especially interested in some of the challenges you mention and possible solutions.
I am currently doing an experiment with different perceptions and ideas around learning. Would love to get your view on some of these if you have time.

Re: Unanswered Questions About Standardized Testing

A standardized test is a test that is administered and scored in a consistent, or "standard", manner.

Re: Intrinsic vs. Extrinsic.
